Many developing countries are facing a huge gap in investments to meet their SDGs targets. While some areas require public investments, there is a clear need to mobilize additional private investment for sustainable development. A key challenge, however, is the identification of specific investment opportunities that advance the achievement of the SDGs.
On 14 April 2021, UNDP’s SDG Impact, in partnership with the Global Investors for Sustainable Development (GISD) Alliance, will launch the SDG Investor Platform during a side event of the 2021 SDG Investment Fair. Through the platform, investors and governments will be able to access findings and data from SDG Investor Maps. Produced locally by UN Country Offices, the maps provide market intelligence, backed by data and evidence, and identify concrete investment opportunity areas. The platform will enable investors to identify sustainable development investment opportunities in developing countries, produce data and insights needed to increase financial flows into SDGs and foster matchmaking and collaborations to realize SDG investments.
Public and private stakeholders will partake in a panel discussion, exploring how the market intelligence data captured in the SDG Investor Maps and presented in the SDG Investor Platform is useful for investment decisions. The panel will also highlight new market building and facilitation activities to mobilize investment for sustainable development at scale.
